Racking Tubes

Winemaking Racking Tubes

All home winemakers will need a racking tube to make the process of transfering 'racking' wine from one vessel to another as easy as possible. You want to move as much wine from the full vessel to the empty vessel leaving as much as the sediment behind. A racking tube will have an anti-sediment tip to prevent the tube from picking-up sediment. Also, a racking tube is rigid so your siphon hose won't crimp.

You can buy a racking tube in both plastic and stainless steel. They are available in a 24" length and a 30" length. If you go with the inexpensive racking tube, you will need to either suck on the end of the siphon hose to start the siphon or fill the entire racking system with water to start the siphon.

These days, many home winemakers and brewers will spend a little more money and get a Easy Siphon which ellimates the need to suck on the hose to start the siphon.
