Our American Stout recipe is high in roasted malt flavor with roasted coffee beans and dark bittersweet chocoate. There is just enough carmel malt to bring some ballance to the mix. Hoppier and a bit more complex than the Traditional Irish Stout. We use three hop additions of (Magnum, Cascade and Centennial hops) to add the hop complexity. Commercial examples are Rogue Shakespeare Stout and Sierra Nevada Stout.
The kit includes 6 lbs of dry malt extract, steeping grains (toasted, caramel and roast barley), steeping sock, pellet hops, priming sugar, dry yeast, Whirfloc tablet, and instructions. It requires a 45 minute boil and makes 5 US gallons. If you desire to use liquid yeast we recommend Wyeast #1056 Ale. Anticipated SG 1.059, SRM 42, IBU 56, and ABV 5.9.
