Belgian Saison is a refreshing, medium to strong fruity ale with a distinctive yellow-orange color. It is well carbonated, well hopped, and dry with a quenching acidity. We use flaked wheat and oats to add to the mouth-feel. Four different spices are used including paradise seeds, bitter orange peel, corriander and sweet orange peel. Orange blossom honey adds to the complexity and alcohol content. Commercial examples include Saison Dupont Vieille Provision, Saison de Pipaix, Saison Regal, Saison Silly, New Belgium Saison, Pizza Port SPF 45, Lost Abbey Red Barn Ale and Ommegang Hennepin.
Kit includes 3.3 lbs of malt syrup and 3 lbs of dry malt, honey, steeping grains, steeping sock, pellet hops, Safale s-04 dry yeast, priming sugar, Whirlfloc tablet, and instructions. It requires a 45 minute boil and makes 5 US gallons. If you prefer to use liquid yeast we recomend Wyeast #3711. Anticipated SG 1.070, SRM 11, IBU 27 and 7.0 ABV.
