Our Russian Imperial Stout is a big, high alcohol beer originally brewed to survive the trip from England to the Russian Imperial Court. This recipe features over 10 lbs of fermentables, roast barley, extra special malt, special 'b', crystal malt and chocolate malt. It shows its best with at least a couple of months of aging. Commercial examples are Three Floyd’s Dark Lord, Bell’s Expedition Stout and North Coast Old Rasputin Imperial Stout.
Kit includes malt syrup, dry malt extract, corn sugar, steeping grains, steeping socks, pellet hops, dry yeast, priming sugar, Whirlfloc tablet, and instructions. It requires a 35-45 minute boil. Makes 5 US gallons. If you prefer to use liquid yeast we recommend Wyeast #1028 or #1968 Ale. Statistics are Est OG 1.087, Est SRM 50, Est IBU'S 76. Potential Alcohol 8.7 ABV.
