Briess Roasted Barley Malt- Lovibond is 300 degrees +/-25. It imparts a sweet, grainy coffee-like flavor and a red to deep brown color to beer. The flavor is concentrated, so a little goes a long way.
Chocolate malt, black patent malt and black barley are often used in combination with roast barley to obtain the desired color. Color contribution is red to deep brown depending upon amount used. For porters and stouts, try 3-7% of grist for a coffee like flavor. For nut brown ales, try 2-5% of total grist.
