Our Robust Porter is a substantial, malty dark ale with a complex toasty, chocolately flavor and aroma. The recipe uses a combination of black, roasted, caramel and toasted malts for complexity. There is just enough hop bitterness (Centenial hops) to balance out the malt sweetness. Hop flavor and aroma are provided by Cascade and Willamette hops. The beer is black but not opaque. Commercial examples are Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald Porter and Sierra Nevada Porter.
Kit includes 6 lbs of dry malt, steeping grains, steeping socks pellets hops, safale s-04, priming sugar, Whirlfloc tablet, and instructions. It requires a 45 minute boil and makes 5 US gallons. If you prefer to use liquid yeast we recommend Wyeast #1028. Anticipated SG 1.058, SRM 28, and 5.8% ABV. IBU.
