Description
Our Imperial Red Ale is similar to a Irish Red but with lots more malt and hops. We use 9.9 lbs of base malt extract, moderate amounts of caramel malts and toasted malt and a touch of roasted barley. A total of 4 oz's of hops are used during 6 hop additions. Chinook hops provide the hop bitterness and Chinook and Cascade provide the hop flavor and aroma. This beer received a Bronze Certificate in the AHA regionals. A Commerical example is Great Lakes Nosferatu Red Ale.
The kit includes malt syrup, corn sugar, steeping grains, steeping sock, pellet hops, priming sugar, dry yeast, Whirlfloc tablet, and instructions. It requires a 45 minute boil and makes 5 US gallons. If you prefer to use liquid yeast we recommend Wyeast #1028 Ale. Anticipated SG 1.083, SRM 17, IBU 73,. and ABV 8.3.
