Homebrewing Yeast- Culturing

Many homebrewers like to make a yeast starter to increase the yeast cell count prior to adding the yeast to the batch of beer. A stir plate, an erlenmyer flask and some starter media (like dried malt extact or Propper Starter) will do the job.

Add your starter media (made from dry malt or propper starter) (made 1-2 days in advance) will increase the yeast cell count and this will help the fermentation start more quickly (decreasing the 'lag time').
