This English style Barley Wine recipe contains 10 lbs of fermentables. We use a combination of English Crystal, extra special, victory and chocolate malt to build up the malt complexity. Lots of English hops (Northern Brewer and Fuggle) provide the balance. Commercial examples include Thomas Hardy's ale and Weyerbacher Blithering Idiot.
The kit contains malt syrup, corn sugar, steeping grains, steeping sock, pellet hops, dry yeast, priming sugar, Whirlfloc tablet, and instructions. It requires a 35-45 minute boil. Makes 5 US gallons. If you perfer to use liquid yeast we recommend Wyeast #1028 or #1968. Statistics are Est OG 1.095, Est SRM 17, Est IBU'S 61. Potential Alcohol 9.5 ABV.
