As a home distiller, you may decided that you want to produce a spirit that is high in proof with minimal amounts of flavor. This is often done when the distiller wants to make a fairly neutral spirit so that it can be flavored with things like Liquor Quick flavorings, making an apple pie recipe or making some type of liqeur.

Saddles and packing will create more reflux in the still, pushing more water and flavor compounds to the bottom of the still column. If you are working with a wine or rum base, you may want to use copper for your packing to remove sulfur compounds. Otherwise, stainless steel or ceramic saddles will work well.
