If you are going to do carbon filtering, the most important thing to do is to make sure that if you are using any plastic tubing that it is food grade. Spirits with a high alcohol content don’t fare well with low grade plastic.
If you have a batch with sulphur odors or other defects, charcoal filtration can really clean up and smooth out your spirit. Be sure to use the proper type of activated charcoal.
Our carbon snake and carbon filtration blocks with do an excellent job of cleaning up your spirits. Charcoal filtration should take place at about 80-90 proof. Spirit should be run through the charcoal at a slow pace.
Be sure to cut to proof prior to charcoal filtration.
