Black IPA is a dark American version of an English IPA. Brewed with chocolate and toasted malts and an aggressive American hop profile. A total of 3.25 oz of hops are used during 5 hop additions. Simcoe and Amarillo are used for flavor and aroma. One of our favorite recipes. Commercial examples are Three Floyd's Blakkr and Hoppin' Frog Hop Heathen Imperial Black Ale.
The kit includes 6.6 lbs of syrup malt and 1 lb of dry malt, steeping grain, steeping sock, hop pellets, priming sugar, safale s-04 dry yeast, Whirlfloc tablet, and instructions. It requires a 45 minute boil and makes 5 US gallons. If you desire to use liquid yeast we recommend Wyeast #1056. Anticipated SG 1.059, SRM 37. IBU 64, and 5.9% ABV.
