Our Baltic Porter kit has a rich malty sweetness with complex flavors of caramel, toffee, toasty, and a bit of licorice. It has the malt flavors of an English porter and the restrained roast of a Schwarzbier beer. This style of beer is similar to English porters but influenced by Russian Imperial Stouts. 9.9 lbs of malt syrup are used in combination with aromatic, crystal, Munich, roasted barley and extra special malt to provide the big complex malt punch. Commercial examples are Carnegie Stark Porter (Finland )and Okocim Porter (Poland). This beer won a Blue ribbon in the Ohio State Fair homebrewing competition.
The kit includes dry and syrup malt extract, specialty grains, steeping sock, pellet hops, priming sugar, dry yeast, Whirlfloc tablet, and instructions. It requires a 45 minute boil and makes 5 US gallons. If you prefer to use liquid yeast we recommend Wyeast #1084 or #1028. Anticipated SG 1.080, SRM 30, IBU 31, and ABV 8.0.
