Beer Kit Recipe
Beer Style: Porter (Dark Ale)
Descriptions and Comments: Malty, caramel and chocolate flavors, slight citrus flavor and aroma from cascade hops
Beer Kit: Coopers Classic Old Dark Ale Kit
Add'l malt extract syrup: None
Add'l dry malt extract: 2 Briess Amber Malt
Add'l adjuncts: None
Add'l bittering/flavor hops: 1/2 oz cascade (20 minutes)
Water salts: None
* The above ingredients should be boiled together in a couple of gallons of good tasting dechlorinated water for 20 minutes
Finishing Hops: 1/2 oz Cascade hops
*Add finishing/aroma hops 2-5 minutes before end of boil
*Cool wort in the boiling kettle to 120-130 deg F..pour into fermenter and top up to 5 gallons with cold dechlorinated water. pitch yeast when wort temp is at or below 75 deg F..
Yeast strain: 10 g of high quality dry ale yeast or #1084 wyeast
Fermentation temp: 60-75 deg f
Primary fermentation time: 3-5 days
Secondary fermentation time: 5-7 DAYS
Priming: 1/4 cup corn sugar or 1 1/4 cups dry malt extract
